Zac Efron, Russell Crowe, & Bill Murray In Talks To Star In Apple’s ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever’

After a little over a year, Apple TV+ has solidified itself as a streaming service with a wealth of quality original films and TV series. Thanks to the success of shows like Servant and Ted Lasso paired with films like Wolfwalkers and Palmer, Apple is incessantly bolstering its catalog. However, the streamer continues to look for new content. As first reported by Deadline, Apple is in final negotiations to acquire the rights to an adaptation of the bestselling book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty and War.
Written by Chick Donahue and J.T. Malloy, the story follows the real-life tale of Donahue leaving New York in 1967 to deliver beer to his childhood friends. However, his friends are currently serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Hitching a ride on a merchant marine vessel, Donahue carries his beer through the jungle and warzones in an attempt to find his pals. However, his casual outfits cause him to be mistaken for a CIA agent, making his course to his friends a bit simpler. Unfortunately, just as he reaches his friends and completes his beer run, the historic, and deadly Tet Offensive occurs.

Farrelly co-wrote the script with Brian Currie (Me, Myself, and Irene) and Pete Jones (Stolen Summer) and will produce as well. Moreover, Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will also serve as the film’s producers.
Currently, Zac Efron is filming season two of his hit Netflix series Down To Earth. Additionally, the actor recently appeared in memorable roles in Scoob! and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile. Up next, Efron will star in Anthony Hayes’ survival thriller Gold and the Disney+ remake of Three Men And A Baby. Meanwhile, Bill Murray recently received a Golden Globe nomination for his work in the Apple TV+ original film On the Rocks. Next, the legendary actor will appear in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Wes Anderson‘s The French Dispatch.
