Seth Rogen To Play Steven Spielberg’s Uncle In Director’s Untitled Semi-Biographical Film

Steven Spielberg is one of the most commercially successful directors in history. With hit films like Jurassic Park, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Color Purple, and Indiana Jones, the filmmaker’s catalog speaks for itself. However, with that level of success, movie fans are eager to learn a bit more about the prolific creative. Now, as first revealed by Deadline, Speilberg is currently developing a feature that is loosely based on his own life.

Following his childhood growing up in Arizona, the director has tapped Seth Rogen to join the film’s cast in the role of Steven Spielberg’s favorite uncle. Rogen joins Michelle Williams, who will play an amalgamation of Spielberg’s mother with separate intentions and an original voice. Additionally, since the film is based on his life, the director will assist with penning the film’s script alongside Tony Kushner (West Side Story).

The currently untitled semi-biopic is scheduled to begin principal photography this summer with an expected release sometime in 2022. In addition to directing and screenwriting responsibilities, Spielberg and Kushner will also executive produce. Moreover, Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies) will produce as well with Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment handling financing and distribution.

Seth Rogen is one of the busiest men in Hollywood today. Following early success with hit comedies like Superbad and Pineapple Express, Rogen continues to balance his time both in front of and behind the cameras. Last appearing in the HBO Max original film An American Pickle, the actor also touts appearance in wildly successful features like The Lion King and Steve Jobs. As a producer, Rogen is currently actively developing a CG reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Nickelodeon. Additionally, the actor will next star opposite Rose Byrne in the Apple TV+ comedy series Platonic.
