Zac Efron To Star In Anthony Hayes’ Survival Thriller ‘Gold’

The annual American Film Market will begin on November 9th. Every year a bevy of producers and film studios present their projects and seek production and distribution deals. Historically, this event introduces the world to new and exciting films in the works featuring a bevy of new and familiar faces. As first reported by Deadline, one of the hottest packages for the event is a new survival thriller with The Greatest Showman star Zac Efron on-board to star.
The feature, titled Gold, hails from Animal Kingdom star Anthony Hayes, who will direct the film in addition to starring alongside Efron. The film is based on a screenplay Hayes co-wrote with his wife, Polly Smyth (Killer Elite). John and Michael Schwarz (Danger Close) will serve as the picture’s executive producers alongside Efron and Hayes.
The film’s plot will reportedly follow two strangers, played by Efron and Hayes, as they travel through a scorching desert. After they stumble across the largest nugget of gold ever discovered, they plot to protect and excavate their treasure. While one of the team embarks on a journey to retrieve the equipment necessary, the other remains and endures the harsh desert heat. Additionally, feral dogs, violent intruders, and the suspicion that his partner will not return closes in on him and the battle for survival begins.

Moreover, production on the movie will begin later this month in Australia. In an accompanying statement, Hayes talks about his excitement for the upcoming project.
“This is an exciting, gripping and timely tale about greed, humanity, who we are, what we’ve done to the world and where we are heading if we aren’t careful. To have Zac Efron as my main man is an absolute gift. And to see what he is creating already is like nothing we’ve seen from him before. I can’t wait to deliver this bold, visceral and cinematic film to audiences all around the world.”
Zac Efron is one of the most recognizable faces in modern Hollywood. Since bursting on the scene in the High School Musical films, the actor branched out to build quite the résumé. Last appearing on the big screen Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and Scoob!, the star now hosts his own travel show on Netflix titled Down to Earth with Zac Efron.
