Tom Hardy, Tye Sheridan, & Pete Davidson To Star In Vietnam War Drama ‘The Things They Carried’

An upcoming film taking place during the Vietnam War will tout one of the most impressive young casts in recent memory. As first reported by Deadline, a new film being introduced at the annual American Film Market will feature an ensemble cast including Tom Hardy, Tye Sheridan, and Pete Davidson.
The picture, titled The Things They Carried, will also include Emmy-nominee Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Bill Skarsgård (IT: Chapter Two). Additionally, they will all join forces with Ashton Sanders (Moonlight), Martin Sensmeier (The Magnificent Seven), Moises Arias (Monos), and Angus Cloud (Euphoria) to round out the cast. However, it appears casting for the feature is still underway with more names joining before production begins in early 2021 in Thailand.
The upcoming film is based on Tim O’Brien’s 1990 book The Things They Carried. The collection of linked short stories explore a platoon of American soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War. The book is one of the New York Times’ Books of the Century. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Scott B. Smith (A Simple Plan) will pen the film’s screenplay with Rupert Sanders (Snow White And The Huntsman) on-board to direct. Additionally, Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will produce and assist with the script’s development. Finally, Tom Hardy will serve as the movie’s executive producer via his Hardy Son & Baker production banner.

In a statement accompanying the initial report, Hardy expressed his excitement to adapt O’Brien’s work for the big screen.
“Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried is his seminal masterwork. A raw, unflinching, and emotionally truthful literary experience filters through a kaleidoscope of memory,” Hardy says. “We are all deeply passionate about and honor to have the good fortune of working alongside Tim in bringing his vital classic to screen. Together with our incredible cast, Rupert, Scott, and David – we look forward to creating what we feel will be an important film.”
Tom Hardy delivered an extremely memorable performance in this year’s Capone. Up next, the Mad Max: Fury Road actor will reprise his role as Eddie Brock in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Moreover, Tye Sheridan can last be seen in blockbusters like Dark Phoenix and Ready Player One. His next starring role will be alongside Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, and Willem Dafoe in The Card Counter. Meanwhile, Pete Davidson continues to churn on weekly episodes of Saturday Night Live. His transition to the big screen will continue with a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Additionally, The King of Staten Island star has projects co-starring O’Shea Jackson, Jr. and Colin Jost in various stages of development as well.
