Dwayne Johnson To Reunite With ‘Jumanji’ Director Jake Kasdan For Amazon Studios Holiday Movie ‘Red One’

Dwayne Johnson recently wrapped production for the highly-anticipated DC film Black Adam as well as finished voice work for DC’s League of Super-Pets. However, it appears the man formerly known as The Rock continues his trend to remain booked and busy. A few months back, it was reported that Johnson will star in and produce a hopeful holiday film franchise. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Johnson will reteam with his Jumanji director Jake Kasdan for the film with Amazon Studios now on board to produce.
Johnson, Hiram Garcia, and Dany Garcia will also produce on behalf of their Seven Bucks Productions. Moreover, the film’s story stems from an original idea conceived by Hiram Garcia. Kasdan will direct and produce with Hobbs and Shaw scribe Chris Morgan penning the screenplay. New Girl producer Melvin Mar is also executive producing.

The holiday film, titled Red One, is described as a “globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy.” The creative team reportedly hopes to reimagine the holiday genre and build a franchise that incorporates multiple films as well as other services Amazon provides. Finally, the picture will begin production in 2022 with a 2023 holiday release.
Dwayne Johnson remains one of the busiest men in Hollywood. In addition to his upcoming DCEU film Black Adam and the development of Hobbs & Shaw 2, the actor recently produced and starred in an NBC series based on his own life titled Young Rock. Up next, the former 6-time WWE Champion will join Emily Blunt in Jungle Cruise 2 and a new superhero film titled Ball & Chain. Additionally, Johnson will produce WB’s Emergency Contact starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
