Dwayne Johnson Confirms ‘Hobbs & Shaw 2’ Is In Development

The Fast & Furious franchise is one of the most profitable in cinematic history. The films have elevated the careers of actors like Vin Deisel and the late Paul Walker. However, the ninth installment of the franchise is delayed until next year amidst the CO-VID 19 pandemic. During a recent Q&A on Instagram this week, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that his Fast spinoff Hobbs & Shaw will receive the spinoff treatment.
“We are developing now the next film, the next Hobbs & Shaw movie, and I’m pretty excited about it,” Johnson said. “We just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we’re going to go.”

Premiering in 2019, Hobbs & Shaw earned $760.4 million worldwide. The spinoff focused on Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw in a new adventure set between the events of The Fate of the Furious and F9. The film also stars Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Eiza González, Cliff Curtis, Helen Mirren, and WWE Superstar Roman Reigns. Additionally, the film benefited from surprise cameos from Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart.
Hobbs & Shaw proved to be a favorite among critics as well. Full Circle’s Managing Critic Mark Tan called the film “a pleasurable experience that hits its peak every time it allows Johnson, Statham, and Kirby to be charismatic action stars. And thanks to Leitch and Morgan, rest assured that it hits that peak quite often” last summer.
