Last summer feels as if it were a lifetime ago. However, the announcement that Marvel Studios is actively developing a series focusing on the antihero Moon Knight for Disney+ remains on the minds of Marvel fans worldwide. With that said, a new rumor from insider Charles Murphy suggests Marvel is considering a bevy of exciting actors to command the show’s titular role, including Daveed Diggs and Nick Kroll.
Previously, Full Circle Cinema reported that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was being considered for the role. However, this new tidbit of information reveals a potentially drastic and different direction for the series. Diggs and Kroll both hail from Jewish-American families and upbringings, just like the man behind the Moon Knight mask Marc Spector. However, neither performer has much experience in big-budget action projects the likes of what Marvel brings to the table. Fortunately, history will show that unlikely stars like Chris Pratt and Paul Rudd shine in their respective MCU spotlights.
Making his debut in 1975, Marc Spector is a Jewish-American, born in Chicago, Illinois. As an adult, Spector decides to give up being a Marine to become a mercenary. While on a mission in Egypt, Spector is left for dead after losing a fight to Raoul Bushman. He’s found by a group of Egyptians who take him to an ancient temple that houses a statue of the moon god Khonshu. As Spector fights for his life, the god appears to him, offering him a second chance at life.
For now, take this rumor with a grain of salt. However, it is likely an official announcement for the series is inevitable. Recent castings for lead roles in other developing Disney+ MCU shows like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel suggest production on these projects are ramping up amidst the global pandemic.
Best known for originating the roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the musical Hamilton, Daveed Diggs continues to make a name for himself in Hollywood. The multi-talented performer’s recent credits include roles in Black-ish, Central Park, and TNT’s Snowpiercer. Up next, Diggs will voice Sebastian the crab in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid film. Meanwhile. Nick Kroll continuously delivers memorable comedic roles. Touting guest-starring appearances in hit shows like Big Mouth, New Girl, and Parks & Rec, Kroll will next appear in Olivia Wilde’s star-studded Don’t Worry Darling.
