RUMOR: Marvel Studios Looking To Bring Miles Morales To The MCU

During the final few months of 2018, fans around the world flocked to the theaters to check out Sony’s first feature-length animated Spider-Man flick. To the surprise of absolutely everybody, the film in question, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, arguably became one of the greatest films in cinematic history. As such, Sony quickly greenlighted a sequel and explored spinoff options. However, as first reported by MCU Cosmic, it appears Marvel Studios is also looking to getting into the business of the star of Spider-Verse, Miles Morales.
Per the initial report, both Sony and Marvel have collaborated and found the actor that will portray Miles in the live-action MCU. With the rumor that Marvel and Sony jointly cast the role, Morales will likely appear in the MCU side of recent Spider-Man live-action outings rather than the universe in which Venom and Morbius exist. However, as always, the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed by Marvel, Sony, or Disney.

The news continues a plot point teased during the events of 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. During an altercation with Tom Holland‘s Spidey, Aaron Davis, portrayed by the incomparable Donald Glover, mentions his nephew. Eagle-eyed Marvel fans quickly remembered that Davis’ nephew is Miles Morales. This relationship is further explored during Into the Spider-Verse as well. Moreover, in a deleted scene from the MCU’s inaugural Spider-Man picture, Davis calls and has a lengthy conversation with Miles. Finally, Miles Morales will next star in his own video game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, launching with the PlayStation 5 in November.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales debuted in 2011’s Ultimate Fallout #4. A teenager of Afro-Puerto Rican ancestry, Morales is the second Spider-Man to appear in Ultimate Marvel universe. In 2015, Miles came to the main Marvel Universe, beginning in the All-New, All-Different Marvel branding. Since then, the character has popped up in a main role in Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. Additionally, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019 and earned $375.5 million worldwide.
