‘Moon Knight’ Disney+ Series Casts Oscar Isaac In Titular Role

Following a scene-stealing role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel series, Oscar Isaac will next team up with another billion-dollar grossing franchise. As first reported by Deadline, the Dune star will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Marc Spector in the upcoming Moon Knight Disney+ series.

Additionally, Umbrella Academy creator Jeremy Slater will join the project to develop and lead the writing team. Per the initial report, Isaac is in final negotiations to star in the series. He will join recent castings such as Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany and newcomer Iman Vellani, who will lead Marvel’s She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel shows.

Making his debut in 1975, Marc Spector is a Jewish-American, born in Chicago, Illinois. As an adult, Spector decides to give up being a Marine to become a mercenary. While on a mission in Egypt, Spector is left for dead after losing a fight to Raoul Bushman. He’s found by a group of Egyptians who take him to an ancient temple that houses a statue of the moon god Khonshu. As Spector fights for his life, the god appears to him, offering him a second chance at life. Previously, Full Circle Cinema reported that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was being considered for the role. Moreover, recent rumors suggest Marvel was considering names like Daveed Diggs and Nick Kroll as well.

Oscar Isaac is fresh off a stellar run in the Star Wars franchise. Next, the star will appear alongside Josh Brolin and Timothée Chalamet in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. The actor also has roles lined up alongside Robert De Niro in Armageddon Time and Megan Fox in Big Gold Brick. Additionally, Isaac will star with Jake Gyllenhaal in a biopic focusing on the making of The Godfather titled Francis And The Godfather. His previous appearances in Marvel films include XMenApocalypse and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Despite the COVID-19 shutdown of productions, Marvel still plans to release WanvdaVision on Disney+ in 2020. The studio will flesh out the next phase of its universe on both the big screen and the streaming platform. Isaac’s Moon Knight series joins other upcoming projects like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye.
