Oscar Isaac & Jake Gyllenhaal To Star In Barry Levinson’s ‘Francis And The Godfather’ Biopic

The 1972 classic The Godfather is one of the most heralded films in cinematic history. However, the story behind the film and its many moving parts proves to be just as captivating. As first reported by Deadline, Endeavor Content and Echo Lake Entertainment is developing a biopic focusing on the making of The Godfather titled Francis And The Godfather.
Pre the initial report, the Oscar-winning director of Rain Man, Barry Levinson, is on-board to helm the picture. Additionally, Dune star Oscar Isaac will portray iconic filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola in the feature. Moreover, Isaac will be joined by Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal, who will portray film producer and studio executive, Robert Evans.
The upcoming semi-biopic will reportedly focus on the wild battles that went into making the 1972 film. The movie will be based on a script by Andrew Farotte (Taken) that has been redeveloped by Levinson himself. In addition, Levinson will produce alongside Mike Marcus (The Ward), Doug Mankoff (Truth), and Jon Levin (In the Tall Grass).

Premiering in 1972, The Godfather was directed and co-written by Francis Ford Coppola. However, at just 31, the filmmaker had to convince Robert Evans and Paramount Pictures to invest large sums of money in him and his idea. The gamble would pay off as The Godfather went on to earn $287 million at the worldwide box office. Moreover, the film won the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando), and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Up next, Gyllenhaal will appear on-stage at London’s Savoy Theatre in Sunday in the Park with George. He will also star in Netflix’s The Division alongside Jessica Chastain and re-team with Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua for a new thriller titled The Guilty. Meanwhile, Oscar Isaac is fresh off a stellar run as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise. Next, the star has roles lined up alongside Robert De Niro in Armageddon Time and Megan Fox in Big Gold Brick.
