Mindy Kaling & Sir Ben Kingsley Join The Cast Of Doug Liman’s ‘Lockdown’

Following months of uncertainty, many film and TV productions around the world have resumed filming. One of those projects is director Doug Liman’s heist dramedy titled Lockdown. As first reported by Deadline, three new stars will join the already stacked lineup for the upcoming feature,
Mindy Kaling, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Lucy Boynton are now on-board to star in the anticipated film alongside the previously-announced Ben Stiller, Lily James, Anne Hathaway, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Additionally, the cast will round out with big names like Stephen Merchant, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, and Mark Gatiss as well.
The Steven Knight-scripted film will be directed by Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith). The plot reportedly follows a bickering young couple, played by Hathaway and Ejiofor, during the worldwide COVID-19 lockdown. Despite glaring differences, the couple will attempt to pull off a high-risk jewelry heist at one of the most exclusive department stores in the world, Harrods. The movie will actually shoot on-location at the glamourous outlet in London this year.

AGC Studios will finance and produce the film. Moreover, P.J. van Sandwijk (Citizen K), Stuart Ford (Dredd), Alison Winter (Gravity) serve as the film’s executive producers.
Mindy Kaling’s wide array of projects continues to show how versatile and dependable she is as a performer. Following award-nominated runs on shows like The Office and The Mindy Project, Kaling appeared alongside Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon in Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time. Most recently, the actress executive produced the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and guest-starred in Apple TV‘s The Morning Show. Moreover, Sir Ben Kingsley is one of the most prolific actors of his generation. The Golden Globe winner’s last appearance on the big screen is a jarring turn in Spider in the Web. Meanwhile, Lucy Boynton’s dramatic flair is on full display in Ryan Murphy’s The Politician. Next, Boynton will portray singer Marianne Faithfull in the musical biopic Faithfull.
