Last week, news that singer-songwriter Harry Styles will replace Shia LaBeouf In Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling made its way online. The One Direction frontman is presumably looking to bolster his acting résumé following an appearance in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, it appears Styles is in talks to join Cinderella star Lily James in a live-action adaptation of My Policeman at Amazon Studios.
Based on a 2012 novel written by Bethan Roberts, My Policeman is set in Brighton, England in 1957. The story follows Tom Burgess, a closeted gay policeman. Tom falls in love with Patrick, a museum curator, and Marion, a schoolteacher, at the same time. However, due to the social bias and discriminatory constraints of the era, Tom and Marion get married. However, Tom is truly only, and passionately, in love with Patrick.
Tony Award winner Michael Grandage will direct the upcoming picture. Moreover, Oscar-nominated screenwriter Ron Nyswaner (Homeland) will adapt the screenplay from the original novel. Amazon Studios will produce the feature with Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter (Free Guy), and Robbie Rogers (Love, Simon) executive producing.
Fresh of the release of his second album, Fine Line, in 2019, Styles is riding a wave of success and popularity. Once a member of One Direction, the best selling boy band of all time, Styles continues to carve a legacy all his own. In fact, the singer was once attached to roles in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Baz Luhrmann‘s Elvis Presley movie. Furthermore, the multitalented Lily James continues to breakthrough following her show-stealing turns in Downton Abbey and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Up next, the actress will star in Phillip Noyce’s true-crime drama, Peggy Jo.
