Newcomer Jonah Hauer-King Boards ‘The Little Mermaid’ As Prince Eric

Disney’s next live-action remake has found its leading man. According to Variety, up-and-coming actor Jonah Hauer-King has joined the cast of The Little Mermaid as Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric.
Hauer-King is best known for his as Laurie in the BBC/Masterpiece limited series Little Women alongside Emily Watson, Kathryn Newton and Maya Hawke. Earlier this year, the 24-year-old actor appeared in the family adventure film A Dog’s Way Home. To land his part in The Little Mermaid, Hauer-King beat out Krypton star Cameron Cuffe, who screen-tested for the highly coveted role in September.
Rob Marshall will direct the live-action remake of the classic Disney film, with Chloe x Halle member Halle Bailey in the role of Ariel. The rest of the cast includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale star Javier Bardem is said to be circling the role of King Triton.

Production on The Little Mermaid is set to begin sometime in early 2020.
