‘13 Reasons Why’ Star Has Auditioned For Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Remake

Disney has continued to pump out live action remakes of their animated classics, and to much success. Both Aladdin and The Lion King dominated the box office on their respective releases, and the House of Mouse has plenty of more reimaginings on the way, including The Little Mermaid.
Halle Bailey has joined the cast of the remake in the titular role, and while the search is still on for a Prince Eric, 13 Reasons Why star Christian Navarro has thrown his hat in the ring, according to Entertainment Weekly
Navarro first showed interest in a tweet posted prior to the release of the Netflix drama’s third season. “So I heard Harry Styles passed on Prince Eric,” said Navarro. “Well, I can sing.” Navarro then states that after he shared his tweet and after an outpouring of support from fans, Disney phoned him up for an audition.
Idk what happened to the other tweet.
But! @disney saw this, saw your support, and gave my team a call. They wanted to see what I could do. Tapes sent. Fingers crossed. Let’s make some history. #iloveyou3000 #PrinceEric #TheLittleMermaid https://t.co/192ZTsfqyH— Christian Navarro (@ChristianLN0821) September 3, 2019
Navarro is best known for his role as Tony Padilla in the aforementioned Netflix hit series. Despite the controversy surrounding the show, critics have praised Navarro’s performance as the tough as nails high schooler with a heart of gold. Harry Styles was previously rumored to be in the running for the role of Eric, but is said to have passed on it.
The remake will begin production in April of 2020.
