Octavia Spencer & Riz Ahmed Join The Cast Of Amazon’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Invasion’

Amazon Studios remains one of the busiest in the industry with a myriad of projects constantly in various stages of development. Following news that George Clooney will team with the studio to direct a new film titled The Tender Bar, Amazon next eyes a new up and coming British filmmaker. As first reported by Deadline, BAFTA-winning director Michael Pearce (Beast) is set to helm a new sci-fi thriller titled Invasion with Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer on-board to star.

The film’s script is a joint-venture between the aforementioned Pearce and Joe Barton (John Wick: Chapter 2). The thriller will reportedly follow two young brothers on the run with their retired Marine father. Their mission is to stay safe from a seemingly inhuman threat while navigating their new world and confronting hard truths and childhood notions. Riz Ahmed is signed to play the father while Octavia Spencer will portray his attentive probation officer.

Additionally, Daniel Battsek (The Favourite), Ollie Madden (Jonah), and Dimitri Doganis (Three Identical Strangers) are on-board to executive produce the feature. Meanwhile, Amazon will handle financing and distributing the film.

Riz Ahmed won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his role in The Night Of. Additionally, the rapper/actor has solidified his résumé with roles in films like Jason Bourne, Venom, and Rogue One. Furthermore, Octavia Spencer remains one of the most respected actresses in the world today. Her roles in films like The Help and Fruitvale Station have earned her an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. The versatile performer currently appears as Madam C. J. Walker in the Netflix limited series Self Made.

Amazon Studios’ upcoming slate of projects continues their work to find footing in the great streaming wars. The platform is also actively developing a series based on the Fallout video game franchise and a continuation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
