George Clooney To Direct ‘The Tender Bar’ Adaptation For Amazon Studios

One of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood continues to try his hand at filmmaking behind the camera. Since 2002, George Clooney has been extremely particular about the projects he chooses to sit in the director’s chair for, and he has found a good deal of success. Next, as first reported by Deadline, Clooney will direct an adaptation of The New York Times bestseller The Tender Bar.

The upcoming film will be financed and distributed by Amazon Studios. Written by J.R. Moehringer and published in 2005, the book received rave reviews from critics and was one of the 100 Most Notable Books of the year. The memoir tells the story of a growing up in Long Island and seeking out father figures among the inhabitants of his uncle’s bar. Originally, the film was in development at Sony with Theodore Melfi (Hidden Figures) at the helm. However, Sony parted ways with the project.

The new feature follows Clooney’s latest film Midnight Sky. Clooney stars in the Netflix film alongside Rogue One star Felicity Jones with production only recently wrapping this week. The former Batman continues his remarkable filmography, last appearing on the big screen in 2016’s Money Monster. Moreover, Clooney had a starring role in the Hulu dark-comedy series Catch-22.

Amazon Studios’ upcoming slate of projects continues their work to find footing in the great streaming wars. The platform is also actively developing a series based on the Fallout video game franchise and a continuation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
