Chiwetel Ejiofor Confirms His MCU Return In ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Back in January, rumors that the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would receive the benefit of the Academy Award-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofer surfaced. Now, during a recent conversation with ComicBook, the performer confirmed the return of the now-villainous Mordo in the highly anticipated feature.
Additionally, the actor teased that the character’s whereabouts since the end credits scene of 2016’s Doctor Strange, and during the events of Infinity War and Endgame would come into play as well.
“He’s coming on. I’m very, very excited about that,” Ejiofer said. “Obviously, we’ve been sort of interrupted as the whole world has been in the pandemic but hopefully, we are back on track with that and continuing quite soon, so I’m very excited about it. All will be revealed.”
The highly anticipated sequel is shaping up to shake the foundation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, a bevy of reports surfaced online revealing the inclusion of Marvel Comics characters like Clea, Brother Voodoo, and America Chavez appearing in the film. Additionally, previous reports confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff in the 2022 film.

Ejiofor’s filmography has grown exponentially since he last appeared in the MCU. His relationship with Disney has expanded with roles in The Lion King and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Up next, the British actor will star alongside Charlize Theron in The Old Guard.
With a new reworked script by Loki scribe Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness promises to be a large-scale, epic cinematic experience. The film will also reportedly crossover with upcoming Disney+ shows Loki and WandaVision. The end of 2019 saw the film’s production hit a rather large bump in the road. Scott Derrickson, the film’s original director, decided to part ways with the project citing creative differences with Marvel Studios. However, the film will now release in 2022 with Spider-Man 2 director Sam Raimi now attached to helm.
