Sam Raimi In Talks To Direct ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’

Stephen Strange might be getting help from the man who helped usher in the current age of superhero films. Sam Raimi is in talks to direct the sequel Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, per Variety.
Raimi, best known as the writer/director of Sony’s Spider-Man trilogy, is being looked at as the new director for the 2021 film. The film, having already been described as the MCU’s first “horror” movie, would fit right into Raimi’s wheelhouse. He got his start as a horror filmmaker, directing such films as The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. Marvel had no comment at this time.
The sequel will see Doctor Strange travel the multiverse along with Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. Plot details are still being kept under wraps but Benedict Wong’s “Wong” is also expected to return as well. The film will be ramping up in the next few months, with production slated to begin in May.

Scott Derrickson, director of 2016’s Doctor Strange, left the project early last month citing “creative differences” with Marvel Studios. Derrickson will remain on board as an executive producer.
