‘Girls Meets World’ Star Sabrina Carpenter To Lead Netflix’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ Musical Reimagining

One of the most beloved fantasy stories of all time is getting a musical reimagining on the Netflix streaming service. As first revealed by THR, Netflix is developing a new spin on the classic tale Alice in Wonderland and singer-actress Sabrina Carpenter is on-board as its star.
The new feature will reportedly be a contemporary take on the classic Lewis Carroll story. At this time, details on what to expect from the project are being kept under wraps. However, the musical will take place within a large Coachella-like music festival appropriately dubbed “Wonderland.”
Music producer and songwriter Ross Evans (Catch the Moon) will pen the film’s screenplay. Moreover, Carpenter will serve as the film’s executive producer via her brand new At Last Productions banner. Leslie Morgenstein (The Sun Is Also A Star) and Elysa Dutton (You) are on-board as producers as well.

Written by the aforementioned English author Lewis Carrol, 1865’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has never been out-of-print and can be read in over 97 languages across the world. The story follows a young girl named Alice, who falls through a rabbit hole into a subterranean fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures. Through crazy adventures and wacky hijinks, Alice learns to face obstacles with logic and cunning. The story’s most popular adaptations included Disney’s 1951 animated film and Tim Burton’s subsequent live-action adaptations starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, and Mia Wasikowska.
Throughout her relatively young career, Sabrina Carpenter has made quite the name for herself. Following a main starring role in Disney‘s Boy Meets World sequel series, Girls Meets World, Carpenter launched a successful acting and singing career. Her on-screen credits include memorable roles in films like The Hate U Give and Tall Girl. The ambitious young performer also served as producer for the Netflix film Work It, in which she also starred. Her fourth album Singular: Act II came out in 2019 and she last appeared alongside Darren Criss in Quibi’s Royalties. She also recently made her Broadway debut in Tina Fey‘s Mean Girls musical.
