Gal Gadot To Star In Patty Jenkins’ ‘Cleopatra’ Biopic At Paramount Pictures

Following what was apparently a hotly-contested bidding war between a bevy of film studios, Paramount Pictures wins big with a new hot package. As first reported by Deadline, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is set to helm a new biopic at Paramount based on the life and times of the legendary ruler of the Kingdom of Egypt, Cleopatra.
Moreover, Jenkins will reunite with Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot for the exciting feature. Gadot will step into the role of Cleopatra for the period biographical drama. The film will feature a script penned by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and will focus on the polarizing historical figure as she deals with personal issues along with her seemingly sudden rise to power. Cleopatra was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt and a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty. Her legacy includes stands alongside and against larger-than-life figures in world history like Alexander the Great and Julius Ceaser. The role has previously been inhabited by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor on the big screen with other names like Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie attached to various projects throughout the years as well.

Paramount Pictures will produce and distribute Cleopatra. Additionally, its screenwriter, Laeta Kalogridis, will serve as the feature’s executive producer alongside Gadot and Jenkins. Charles Roven (Man of Steel) and Gadot’s husband Jaron Varsano (My Dearest Fidel) are on-board to produce as well.
Up next, Jenkins and Gadot’s latest collaboration, Wonder Woman 1984, holds a release date of December 25th. However, following seemingly countless delays and push backs, that release may just change again prior to that. Moreover, Gadot will next star in Kenneth Branagh’s mystery thriller, Death on the Nile. Additionally, Gadot will star alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice, one of Netflix’s most expensive projects to date.
