It seems like every other day, another actor joins the ranks of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming biopic Oppenheimer. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Army Of The Dead standout Matthias Schweighöfer is the latest name joining the incredibly impressive ensemble.

Matthias Schweighöfer joins Turner & Hooch star Josh Peck as the most recent additions to the cast. Other recently announced names include Jack Quaid, Jason Clarke, David Dastmalchian, Alden Ehrenreich, and Kenneth Branagh. They all join Dane DeHaan Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Benny Safdie, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt. Nolan will write and direct the film, titled Oppenheimer. Universal Pictures will produce and distribute the feature alongside Nolan’s Syncopy production banner. Additionally, Nolan’s longtime collaborator Emma Thomas (Dunkirk) will executive produce the film along with Charles Roven (Zack Snyder’s Justice League).

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, Oppenheimer will serve as a biopic for the father of the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer was an American theoretical physicist. History remembers him for his role in the Manhattan Project, the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons. Notably, in August 1945, the weapons were used in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Moreover, he later famously remarked, “now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

Matthias Schweighöfer stole every scene he appears in during Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. So much so, the actor returned to the franchise to star in and direct a spinoff titled Army of Thieves. Up next, the versatile actor will star in Netflix’s Heart of Stone alongside Gal Gadot.
