Alden Ehrenreich & Kenneth Branagh Join Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’; First Look Revealed

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Universal has announced Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz (Numbers), and Kenneth Branagh are joining the ensemble cast for Christopher Nolan’s latest film Oppenheimer. They have also revealed a first look at the film’s focus, J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy. The film begins production this week in New Mexico.
Ehrenreich starred in Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story where he played the legendary character Han Solo in 2018. He has since made appearances in the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, and Rules Don’t Apply. He also starred in Peacock’s A Brave New World most recently.

Actor, director, and producer Branagh has appeared in Nolan’s Tenet and Dunkirk. Tenet was the most recent film from the director before his fallout with Warner Bros over their dual release with streaming service HBO Max. Branagh also directs and stars in 20th Century Fox’s recent release Death on the Nile. His latest feature, Belfast, is nominated for 7 Academy Awards this year.
These gentlemen join a cast already including Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr. Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Harnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold, and Michael Angarano. The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The film’s script was adapted by Nolan, who will serve as its director as well.
