Following a tremendously successful 2021, so far, Emily Blunt continues to add to her Golden Globe Award-winning career. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, Blunt is in early negotiations to join her A Quiet Place Part II co-star Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s latest big-budget movie for Universal Pictures.
Nolan will write and direct the film, titled Oppenheimer. Universal Pictures will produce and distribute the feature alongside Nolan’s Syncopy production banner. Additionally, Nolan’s longtime collaborator Emma Thomas (Dunkirk) will executive produce the film along with Charles Roven (Zack Snyder’s Justice League).
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, Oppenheimer will serve as a biopic for the father of the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer was an American theoretical physicist. History remembers him for his role in the Manhattan Project, the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons. In August 1945, the weapons were used in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Moreover, he later famously remarked, “now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
Emily Blunt is one of the most sought-after performers in the world. Her recent turns in films like A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins Returns have displayed her talent and acting range. Although, before all of that, Blunt is a multiple-time Golden Globe and SAG Award, winner. Most recently, the actress appeared alongside her husband John Krasinski in A Quiet Place Part II and Dwayne Johnson in Jungle Cruise. Up next, Blunt will re-team with The Rock for a Jungle Cruise sequel as well as a new superhero film titled Ball & Chain.
Oppenheimer hits theaters on July 21, 2023.
