John Cena is one of the biggest blossoming stars in Hollywood. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, Cena is in talks to star in a new action-comedy in the works titled Freelance.
Taken director Pierre Morel is helming the feature written by Jacob Lentz (Jimmy Kimmel Live!), in his feature writing debut. Freelance follows a special forces operator who decides to retire from the Army and start a family. However, several years of mortgage payments, school drop-offs, and backyard barbecues have him longing for a return to action. He takes a gig as security detail for a journalist as she interviews a cruel dictator. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, Cena is forced to use his experience to stay alive.
Following a recent return to the wrestling ring in a match against Universal Champion Roman Reigns, John Cena will next star in James Gunn’s HBO Max DC series Peacemaker. Additionally, the actor’s slate of upcoming projects includes a role opposite Oscar-winner Kathy Bates and Queen & Slim star Jodie Turner-Smith in The Independent. Additionally, the future surefire WWE Hall of Famer will join Henry Cavill and Samuel L. Jackson in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle for Apple Studios.
