Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, & Chris Conrad Join John Cena In James Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ Series

In September, the collective jaws of DC fans all over the world were dropped when news that James Gunn is teaming with HBO Max for a The Suicide Squad spinoff series starring John Cena. The series will reportedly begin production in early 2021, so pre-production is moving fairly quickly. As first reported by THR, the 16-time WWE Champion will be surrounded by an incredibly talented array of supporting actors for James Gunn’s Peacemaker.
The show’s call sheet will include Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Chris Conrad, and Jennifer Holland in an assortment of roles. Best known for her role in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, Brooks is also a Tony Award nominee for her portrayal of Sofia in the 2015 Broadway production of The Color Purple. She will play a character named Leota Adebayo in the series. Robert Patrick, best known for roles in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Walk The Line, will play Auggie Smith. Moreover, Jennifer Holland will reprise her role as Emilia Harcourt from The Suicide Squad while Chris Conrad (Perpetual Grace, LTD) will play Vigilante. The latter piece of casting information is surprising as Idris Elba was previously rumored to play Vigilante in The Suicide Squad before being confirmed as Bloodsport.
Director James Gunn took to Twitter to express his excitement for the new casting confirmations.
And so happy to have @robertpatrickT2 as Auggie Smith, @CConradTweets as Vigilante, & @jennlholland reprising her role from #TheSuicideSquad, #EmiliaHarcourt, joining @JohnCena & @thedanieb in the cast of my @hbomax show #Peacemaker! https://t.co/WmR3W2PYSQ

The ensemble joins the previously announced Steve Agee (New Girl) who will play John Economos in the series. John Cena will reprise his role as Peacemaker, which he will debut in The Suicide Squad next year. The show follows a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the series and is directing multiple episodes. The show will shoot during the filmmaker’s window in-between The Suicide Squad and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.
