Idris Elba To Play Bloodsport In James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

James Gunn has finally revealed Idris Elba’s role in The Suicide Squad. During the film’s panel at DC FanDome, it was confirmed that Elba will be portraying the mercenary Bloodsport.
Created by John Bryne and Karl Kesel in 1987, Bloodsport’s first appearance was in Superman #4. After a mental breakdown, Robert DuBois loses his mind and becomes obsessed with the Vietnam War. Lex Luthor would then provide DuBois with weapons and convinced him that Superman was the enemy in a bid to kill the Man of Steel. Several other individuals have taken up the name Bloodsport but DuBois is the most well known.

It has long been believed that Elba would play the character Vigilante in the film after a number of reports claimed that was his role. However, on Friday, Gunn began to cast some doubt on this rumor claiming he hadn’t seen anyone correctly predict who Elba would star as. As a result, this reveal does not come as quite a shock. The panel also offered some Bloodsport trivia explaining how the character is currently in jail for shooting Superman.
