Janelle Monáe Joins The Cast Of Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out 2’

Rian Johnson is one of the most prolific filmmakers of his generation. In fact, Full Circle ran a full series of reviews for his work in an attempt to highlight his offerings to the American film canon. The director earned a bevy of awards nominations for his film Knives Out. Following months of speculation, it was confirmed that the filmmaker is building a Knives Out franchise in a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix. As first reported by Deadline, SAG Award-winning actor Janelle Monáe is the latest actor to join the film’s cast.
Monáe joins other recent additions to the ensemble like Dave Bautista and Edward Norton. Additionally, Daniel Craig is onboard to reprise his role as super sleuth Benoit Blanc. Rian Johnson is writing and will direct the feature longtime collaborator Ram Bergman returning as executive producer.

Knives Out is a 2019 mystery film filled with twists and turns. Notably, the film features an all-star ensemble including the aforementioned Craig, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Lakeith Stanfield. The film’s plot follows a master detective investigating the death of the patriarch of a wealthy, dysfunctional family. The feature grossed $311.4 million worldwide while also receiving a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Janelle Monáe is one of the most versatile and high-profile performers in the world. A Grammy Award-nominated singer, Monáe made her theatrical film debut in two high-profile productions; Monáe starred in Hidden Figures and Moonlight. Most recently, the singer/songwriter turned heads in a memorable performance in the horror-thriller Antebellum.
