‘The Umbrella Academy’ Star Peter Outerbridge Joins ‘Batwoman’ Season 2 As Black Mask

With season two already well underway, The CW’s Batwoman is one of the most celebrated offerings from the Arrowverse. In January, it was reported that an iconic member of Batman’s rogue’s gallery will be joining the series as Black Mask will have a role to play. Now, according to Deadline, Code 8 star Peter Outerbridge has been cast as the infamous crime boss.
Black Mask debuted in the pages of DC Comics in Batman #386 in 1985. Often depicted as a major crime boss in Gotham, he has a fixation with masks and derives sadistic pleasure from the act of torture. Real name Roman Sionis, the villain dons a terrifying black mask when committing the most heinous of crimes, hence the moniker. Ewan McGregor portrayed the character during 2020’s lone DCEU installment Birds of Prey.

Per the initial report, the CW’s version of the character is a “pragmatic and charismatic CEO who played the white knight against Gotham’s corruption.” However, as the Black Mask, he is an evil mastermind with a vendetta towards The Crows and masked vigilantes.
Outerbridge joins other recent additions to the cast like Mindhunter‘s Alex Morf who portrays supervillain Victor Zsasz. Moreover, the role of Kate Kane, previously played by Ruby Rose, has been recast with The Royals alum Wallis Day. Season two follows Javicia Leslie‘s game-changing Ryan Wilder as she steps in as the new Batwoman following a plane crash that seemingly kills Kate Kane. She will also have to deal with ever-looming threats like Amygdala and Safiyah.
