Ewan McGregor To Play Jiminy Cricket In Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’

The Star Wars star recently revealed that work was underway on the animated Netflix feature. While discussing his role in Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio Ewan McGregor confirmed he will play Jiminy Cricket.
In January, it was announced that McGregor had joined the cast of the film along with Ron Perlman, Tilda Swinton, Ewan McGregor, Christoph Waltz, and David Bradley. At the time, there was no confirmation on who McGregor would voice in the film with some reports claiming he would play Pinocchio himself.
But Monday, during an interview with ACE Universe, the star confirmed his role in the film. The stop-motion adaptation of the classic tale is set to premiere on Netflix in 2021. McGregor explained that he had begun working on the movie before the COVID-19 pandemic that brought the entertainment industry to a halt.

In addition to confirming his role, McGregor also gave fans a few details about the film. The star is nearly done with recording his dialogue for the film but did tease a potential musical number.
“Some of that is recorded. And of course, it’s stop-frame animation so it’s going to take them a great long time to make that film. But my first part of that, which is recording his dialogue, is sort of done. There may or may not be a song that needs to be recorded. I’m not sure that I’m at liberty to discuss that.”
McGregor most recently appeared in Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn as the villain Black Mask. In addition to Pinocchio, the star is attached to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in his solo Disney+ series.
