‘London Has Fallen’ Star Shivani Ghai Joins ‘Batwoman’ Season 2 As Safiyah Sohail

The Arrowverse will look to continue pushing forward on The CW following the series finale of its flagship program Arrow earlier this year. One of the most prominent changes to happen since then was the departure of Batwoman star Ruby Rose and the subsequent casting of Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder. As first revealed by TVLine, Wilder’s first big foe has been cast in the form of Dominion star Shivani Ghai.
Shivani Ghai will portray the villainous Safiyah in the show’s second season. Safiyah is the protective ruler of a small community on the island of Coryana. The character was referenced on multiple occasions in season one. The character description taps her as “compassionate and charismatic with both physical and psychological prowess”. Debuting in the pages of DC Comics in Batwoman: Rebirth #1 in 2017, Safiyah Sohail will remain a thorn in the side of Batwoman in a bevy of mediums.
The actress joins the series in a recurring role. Moreover, her résumé touts roles in films like London Has Fallen and a starring role in the Syfy series Dominion.

The aforementioned Leslie will be taking over the titular role after Ruby Rose announced her surprise departure in May. Leslie has some familiarity with Arrowverse executive producer Greg Berlanti as his production company, Berlanti Productions, produced God Friended Me for two seasons on CBS.
The CW and WarnerMedia are committed to the show’s LGBTQ representation. The new character will find inspiration in Kane’s work as Batwoman and decide to take up the mantle. However, the move would be unprecedented. Javicia Leslie will become the first woman of color to embody the iconic character Batwoman in the upcoming season of the CW series. Like many other series, Batwoman season one halted early due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show had a planned 22-episode season, but Episode 20 served as its season finale.

Batwoman will return in January 2021.
