Benedict Cumberbatch To Star In Colin Trevorrow’s ‘War Magician’

Colin Trevorrow’s career is certainly an interesting one. Best known for directing the blockbuster film Jurassic World, the filmmaker was once attached to the Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises as well. Last November, the director wrapped production for the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion and is now eyeing his next project. As first reported by Deadline, Trevorrow will direct a new WWII drama with Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch set to star.
The feature, titled War Magician, is based on the real-life story of Jasper Maskelyne. A British illusionist and stage magician in the 1930s and 1940s, Maskelyne joined the Royal Engineers when the Second World War broke out. Based on his own accounts, the charismatic enigma created large-scale ruses, deception, and camouflage in an effort to defeat the Nazis. Trevorrow’s adaptation of the tale will team Maskelyne an international gang of magicians from Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as an unknown female intelligence officer, to combat Nazi Germany.

Based on the book with the same name by David Fisher, Trevorrow will direct and produce with E. Nicholas Mariani (Not Without Hope) writing the script. Additionally, Cumberbatch will executive produce the feature as well with StudioCanal handling distribution. Leah Clarke (The Mauritanian), Richard Saperstein (The Blob), and Shana Eddy-Grouf (Amateur Night) are on-board to produce as well.
After weeks of fans expecting him to show up in WandaVision, Benedict Cumberbatch will next appear as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Additionally, the actor will lead his own MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. Outside of obligations with Marvel, the actor will star opposite Claire Foy in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. Moreover, Cumberbatch will also join Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons in The Power of the Dog.
