Sylvester Stallone Joins The Cast Of James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is still at the top of moviegoers’ most anticipated upcoming films. With principal photography wrapping before the worldwide coronavirus shutdowns, a lot of work on the movie has been done remotely. However, fans were treated to a first glimpse during this year’s DC Fandome event. It appears the film has plenty of more surprises in store as cinematic icon Sylvester Stallone revealed via Instagram that he is doing some sort of work on the film alongside James Gunn this weekend.
Stallone last worked with Gunn when he appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 as Stakar Ogord. Both parties tout how much fun they had collaborating for that project so a reunion makes perfect sense. Given the vagueness of Stallone’s Instagram post, it is far too early to speculate about who he will play in The Suicide Squad. However, he joins an absolutely stacked ensemble cast featuring Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Viola Davis, and John Cena.
The upcoming film will reportedly be a soft reboot of Task Force X. While it will feature characters from 2016’s David Ayer-led Suicide Squad, many fans expect a completely different tone. Gunn recruited a litany of A-list talent for the film and spent many months filming scenes in Central America. Additionally, set footage and photos have provided fans with tidbits of what to look forward to. Among them are Harley Quinn’s new look, John Cena as a bad guy, and Idris Elba taking the lead.

Stallone can last be seen in 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood. The film received mostly favorable reviews and grossed over $91 million at the worldwide box office. Additionally, the actor will star in the new superhero film titled Samaritan and reprise his role as Rocky Balboa in the Michael B. Jordan-directed Creed 3.
