Jon Watts Reportedly In Talks To Direct ‘Star Wars’ Series For Disney+

Fresh off a billion-dollar run with his latest film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, director Jon Watts has reportedly set his eyes on another big-money franchise. According to DiscussingFilm, the filmmaker is in talks with Disney and LucasFilm to helm a new Star Wars series for the Disney+ streaming service.
Per the initial report, details surrounding the series are scarce at this time. However, it appears Jon Favreau is already on-board to reunite with his Spider-Man director as an executive producer. Additionally, given his proximity with all the Disney+ Star Wars installments so far, Dave Filoni is expected to produce the series as well.

Further digging from The Illuminderdi as well as Murphy’s Multiverse point to the series looking to cast a young male actor between the age of 10 to 12 for this new show. Additionally, this young performer will be reportedly join an actor between the age of 30 and 40. Production will begin this summer at Manhattan Beach Studios.
The latest mysterious series joins previously announced upcoming projects for Disney+ such as Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Lando. Furthermore, it’s possible Lucasfilm wants someone tuned in with making films for a new generation, like Watts, to lead the charge for the first adaptations of the highly successful High Republic series, currently enjoying a run in the forms of novels and comic books. Watts will next tackle the highly anticipated Fantastic Four reboot for Marvel Studios. Additionally, the ever-busy filmmakeris developing an untitled project for Apple TV+ starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Finally, Watts will serve as a producer on the upcoming Final Destination 6.
