Taika Waititi Will Reportedly Voice A Character in Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’

When Disney and Pixar dropped the first teaser for Lightyear, social media users collectively lost their minds. However, besides Captain America star Chris Evans voicing the titular character, not much is known of the anticipated animated flick. Now, as first reported by The DisInsider, it appears Evans will get some company from a fellow MCU alum Taika Waititi.
Per the initial report, Waititi’s exact role is a mystery at the time of this writing. However, whoever Waititi voices will serve as a sidekick of sorts for Chris Evans‘ Buzz Lightyear. Written by Pete Docter (Soul), Lightyear is helmed by Finding Dory co-director Angus MacLane, in his solo directorial debut.

Lightyear revolves around the fictional origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the character that the action figure in the Toy Story series was based on. The film was first announced during last year’s Disney Investor’s Day.
The new role adds to Waititi’s already heavy load of upcoming projects. The Free Guy star recently wrapped filming on Thor: Love and Thunder and will next write and direct an installment in the Star Wars franchise. Additionally, the Oscar winner is developing a new series, titled Our Flag Means Death, for HBO Max. Moreover, the role in Disney’s Lightyear expands the multitalented Waititi’s relationship with Disney as he is also rumored to helm the studio’s upcoming Tower of Terror movie.
