Anthony Mackie To Star In Sony’s ‘Twisted Metal’ Series Adaptation

Sony is currently in the business of churning out a series of live-action adaptations of popular PlayStation video game franchises. With films like Uncharted making their way to the big screen, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are collaborating on a live-action series based on the popular Twisted Metal game. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Anthony Mackie is on board to lead the show’s cast.
Per the initial report, Mackie will portray John Doe in the series. Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith will pen the series and serve as executive producer as well. Additionally, the series is based on an original pitch by Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, who are also on board to produce.

Twisted Metal will release as half-hour live-action series. Sources close to the story describe it as a high-octane action-comedy. Mackie’s John Doe is a smart-mouthed outside who is offered a better chance at life if he can deliver a mysterious package across the post-apocalyptic land. Doe must face savage thieves driving vehicles designed for mayhem, to achieve his objective. Additionally, in a statement, Head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, expresses his excitement for Mackie to take on the role. “We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action, and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.”
Developed by SingleTrac, Twisted Metal is a demolition derby that emphasizes the usage of ballistic projectiles, machine guns, mines, and other types of weapons. Additionally, the series has been releases on various PlayStation consoles, selling millions of copies worldwide.
Anthony Mackie is fresh off a stellar run as the new Captain America in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Additionally, the actor will the role in the fourth Captain America movie for Marvel Studios. Moreover, the actor will star alongside David Harbour and Tig Notaro will star in a new family adventure for Netflix titled We Have A Ghost.
