‘Cobra Kai’ Star Xolo Maridueña To Star In DC’s ‘Blue Beetle’

The future of DC’s live-action film slate is shaping up to be an excited, and inclusive, endeavor. With recent castings like Leslie Grace’s Batgirl and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, it appears WB is beginning to fast-track its Blue Beetle HBO Max feature as well. As first reported by The Wrap, Cobra Kai standout Xolo Maridueña is in talks to portray the titular Latinx superhero.
Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hammer, Blue Beetle AKA Jaime Reyes first appeared in 2006’s Infinite Crisis #3. After bonding with an alien scarab, Jaime finds he can create a suit of extraterrestrial armor that allows him to fight crime. The suit grants him flight, enhanced strength, energy shields, the ability to create weapons from nothing, and many other abilities. Additionally, Reyes is the third character to assume the mantle of the Blue Beetle.

Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala) is penning the film’s screenplay with Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto helming the feature. Previously, it was revealed that Blue Beetle will premiere exclusively on the HBO Max streaming service.
At just 20-years-old, Xolo Maridueña is already building quite a legacy for himself. The young actor currently embodies the main role of Miguel Diaz in the universally celebrated Netflix series Cobra Kai. Moreover, the future movie star touts memorable roles in TV shows like Parenthood, Twin Peaks, and Major Crimes as well.
