Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Deadpool 3’ Will Be An R-Rated MCU Film

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest-grossing film franchise in cinematic history. Following a decade, over 20 movies, and a host of TV shows set in the same shared universe, the future of the MCU is brighter than ever. During last month’s Disney Investor’s Day, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that intertwined stories will take place on the big screen and on the Disney+ streaming service. However, despite the wealth of new projects in the works, many fans are waiting to see what happens with the Marvel properties acquired by Disney in the merger with 21st Century Fox. Now, those plans are beginning to unfold with further news regarding Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool 3.
During a conversation with Collider within a press junket for the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision, Feige confirms that Deadpool 3 will take place in the established MCU as well as hold on to its famous R-rating.

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not film this year,” Feige said. “Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
Last month, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin (Bob’s Burgers) were tapped to write the long-anticipated Deadpool 3. Additionally, last October, Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed a commitment to The Merc With The Mouth’s edgy demeanor.
Deadpool 3 is the first official film previously a part of the X-Men lineup to get a home at Marvel Studios. However, fellow mutants like Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops are likely to show up sooner than later. Finally, Marvel Studios will reboot The Fantastic Four with Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts at the helm.
