Created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr., Monica Rambeau debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 in 1982. Introduced as the second Captain Marvel, she gained her power after being bombarded by extradimensional energy. After some time, she went on to go by other names, including Photon, Pulsar, and Spectrum. She has been a member of the Avengers, Nextwave, and the Ultimates. The character made her MCU debut in 2019’s Captain Marvel played by Akira Akbar.
Now that Teyonah Parris is set to portray an adult Monica in WandaVision, it makes sense for her to finally gain her powers. In the show’s trailer, Monica is shown being ejected from Wanda’s dream world, so this could potentially be how she comes to get her abilities.
