DreamWorks Animation is one of the most prolific studios in American history. Thanks to successful movie franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, moviegoers have grown to expect greatness when watching a DreamWorks creation. Up next, as first reported by Variety, the studio is developing a new film titled The Bad Guys with an incredibly stacked voice cast lending their voices to the project.
Per the initial report, Oscar winner Sam Rockwell, Shang Chi‘s Awkwafina, and the fast-rising star of In The Heights Anthony Ramos will lead the film’s voice cast. Additionally, GLOW actor Marc Maron, Craig Robinson (The Office), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), comedian Alex Bornstein, late-night host Lilly Singh, and Richard Ayoade (Soul) appear on the cast call sheet as well.
Based on the Scholastic book series by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys follows an outlandish crew of animal outlaws. However, after a long life of crime, the team must now face their most difficult con yet, becoming model citizens. Pierre Perifel will helm the feature, marking his directorial debut. Moreover, the adapted screenplay hails from Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) and Hilary Winston (The LEGO Ninjago Movie). DreamWorks will release the film on April 15, 2022, via Universal Pictures.
In 2017, Sam Rockwell won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Up next, the actor will star as country singer Merle Haggard in an upcoming biopic. Meanwhile, Awkwafina is gearing up to star alongside her Jumanji co-star Karen Gillan in Amazon’s Shelly. In addition, the Golden Globe winner will appear in Marvel’s highly anticipated Shang Chi. Following a career-making role in Hamilton, Anthony Ramos is a shining star on the rise. Following a memorable turn in In The Heights, the multitalented performer will next serve as the leading man for Paramount’s next Transformers movie.
