The future of the Transformers film franchise is looking brighter than ever. Last year, Creed II director, Steven Caple Jr. was hired to direct the new film. Additionally, previous rumors pointed to Paramount and Hasbro looking for a “Tessa Thompson type” to lead the reboot’s cast. Now, per a new report from Deadline, Judas and the Black Messiah star Dominique Fishback is joining the cast of the upcoming film.
Fishback joins the previously cast Anthony Ramos. Previously, Fishback’s name appeared alongside Kiki Layne as potential female leads for the film. Obi-Wan Kenobi scribe Joby Harold wrote the first draft of the script with Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters stepping in to finish the job. The latest installment will reportedly revamp the franchise and, notably, Michael Bay, the man behind most of the franchise’s monetary success, is not attached to the project in any way.

Transformers is the 13th highest-grossing film series of all time with a total of $4.8 billion worldwide. However, most of the movies in the canon have received mixed-to-negative reactions from fans and critics alike. In 2018, John Cena and Hailee Steinfeld starred in a spinoff film titled Bumblebee, which was received positively and breathed new life into the franchise.
Dominique Fishback turned heads following her role as a streetsmart aspiring rapper opposite Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Netflix’s Project Power. Additionally, her notable film credits include appearances in films like The Hate U Give and Night Comes On. The future megastar also touts a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s BAFTAs ceremony for Judas and the Black Messiah.
