After more than four decades in show business, actor/singer Jamie Foxx remains one of the most ambitious and hardworking men in Hollywood. Following a memorable starring role in Netflix’s Project Power, the versatile performer is lining up a bevy of roles for his upcoming slate. As first reported by Deadline, Foxx will star in and produce a new film in the works at Amazon Studios titled The Burial.
Hailing from Novitiate director Maggie Betts, the film will be based on the 1991 New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr. Taking inspiration from true events, the story follows a bankrupt funeral home director. After making the decision to sue a rival businessman after a handshake deal goes south, he hires a flamboyant and off-kilter attorney to take the case. Casting directors are reportedly seeking an actor with the same star power Foxx possesses for the roles opposite the Soul star.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright will pen the film’s screenplay. Foxx will serve as the film’s executive producer with Betts directing. Additionally, Adam Richman (Man v. Food) & Jenette Kahn (Gran Torino) are on-board to produce as well. Amazon Studios will handle the picture’s financing and distribution.
Jamie Foxx is an Oscar and Grammy Award-winning performer. Last year, the actor turned in an award-worthy performance alongside Michael B. Jordan in Just Mercy. Additionally, the Ray star will play the titular antihero role in Todd McFarlane’s upcoming Spawn reboot. Up next, the actor will voice the main character in Pixar’s latest film Soul. Furthermore, Foxx’s upcoming Mike Tyson biopic is actively in development as well. Recently, Jamie Foxx broke the internet by confirming that he will reprise his villainous role of Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in Sony and Marvel’s upcoming third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland.
