‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke Joins The Cast Of Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion’

At December’s Disney Investors Day it was confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn are returning to their MCU roles. The two stars will lead the cast for Marvel’s Secret Invasion series adaptation for Disney+. Now, according to Variety, Games of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is the next major star joining the MCU and will debut in Secret Invasion.

The actress joins One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir and Oscar winner Olivia Colman, who both recently joined the cast. However, it is currently unknown which Marvel characters the three award-winning performers will portray. Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) is on board to pen the series and serve as an executive producer.

The series will reportedly run for six episodes on the Disney+ streaming service. Within the pages of Marvel Comics, Secret Invasion is a comic book crossover storyline that ran for a self-titled eight-issue limited series. The story follows a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the series sees The Avengers teaming with The Fantastic Four and the X-Men, among others, to confront and end the threat of the Skrulls. However, in the MCU, the Skrulls are not as conniving as their comic book counterparts. Talos and Soren seemingly have a friendly partnership with Nick Fury. Additionally, a Skrull appears during the season finale of WandaVision to recruit Teyonah Parris‘ Monica Rambeau for an unknown assignment from Fury.

Since her breakthrough role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, Clarke has expanded her career with roles in Solo: A Star Wars Story and the romantic comedy Last Christmas. Additionally, Clarke appeared on stage in 2020 in the Playhouse Theatre’s production of The Seagull. Up next, the actress has a voice role alongside Hugh Laurie in the animated feature The Amazing Maurice.
