Oscar Winner Olivia Colman Joins The Cast Of Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion’

One of the most exciting announcements coming from December’s Disney Investors Day was the confirmation of Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn returning to their MCU roles. The two stars will lead the cast for Marvel’s Secret Invasion series for Disney+. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will debut in Secret Invasion.

The actress joins One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir, who also recently joined the cast. Additionally, it is currently unknown which Marvel character the two multitalented performers will portray. Moreover, Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) is on board to pen the series and serve as an executive producer.

The series will reportedly run for six episodes on the Disney+ streaming service. Within the pages of Marvel Comics, Secret Invasion is a comic book crossover storyline that ran for a self-titled eight-issue limited series. The story follows a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the series sees The Avengers teaming with The Fantastic Four and the X-Men, among others, to confront and end the threat of the Skrulls. However, in the MCU, the Skrulls are not as conniving as their comic book counterparts. Talos and Soren seemingly have a friendly partnership with Nick Fury. Additionally, a Skrull appears during the season finale of WandaVision to recruit Teyonah Parris‘ Monica Rambeau for an unknown assignment from Fury.

Olivia Colman is one of the most revered actresses of her generation. She is the recipient of an Academy Award, three British Academy Television Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. Notably, Colman is currently up for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in The Father. Up next, the British actress will appear alongside Dakota Johnson in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter and lend her voice to Netflix’s animated feature The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
