Jurnee Smollett To Star In Action-Thriller ‘Fuel’ For Amazon Studios

Fresh off a bevy of awards nominations for her stellar work in HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Jurnee Smollett continues her upward trajectory with a new action-packed role. As first reported by Deadline, the multitalented actress will star in a new film titled Fuel.
Following a hotly-contested bidding war, Amazon Studios is in final negotiations to acquire the rights to the feature. Additionally, the project will reunite Smollett with Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green, who is on-board as executive producer. Smollett will produce the picture as well as serve as the cast’s leading lady.

The film hails from Home screenwriter Kat Wood. The film follows a wheel-woman deep in a career of crime and high-stakes robberies. However, in a fresh spin on getaway driver films, the film will serve as a story of female empowerment and subvert the relationship between fast cars and masculinity. Smollett’s getaway driver is convinced to work for a criminal that forces her to break all the personal rules and guidelines she set for herself. The aforementioned Wood will produce the film as well as penning its screenplay.
Following a show-stealing portrayal of Black Canary in DC’s Birds of Prey, Smollett is a household name. Touting nominations at this year’s Critics’ Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards, the multihyphenate is showing no signs of slowing down. Up next, Smollett will star alongside Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller in the highly anticipated Netflix film Escape from Spiderhead. Moreover, the actress has a longstanding relationship with Misha Green after working with her on both Lovecraft Country and Underground. In addition to this project, Misha Green will write and direct the upcoming Tomb Raider sequel as well.
