Chris Hemsworth & Jurnee Smollett Join Miles Teller In Netflix’s ‘Spiderhead’

Back in March, early reports revealed that Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller was in talks to star in Netflix’s upcoming film Spiderhead. It now appears those reports were true. As first revealed by Deadline, Teller will indeed star in the upcoming feature and he will be accompanied by some pretty big names as well.
Per the initial report, Chris Hemsworth and Jurnee Smollett will join Teller in the Netflix project. Additionally, Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion) is on-board to direct the picture. The script will be penned by Deadpool 2 writers, Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick. Moreover, Eric Newman (Project Power) will produce the film alongside Tommy Harper (The Force Awakens) and Jeremy Steckler (Army of One).

Based on a short story by George Saunders that first ran in The New Yorker, Spiderhead takes place in the near future. The story follows convicts who are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects in return for shortening their sentences. When one prisoner finds himself the test patient for a new pharmaceutical capable of generating feelings of love, he begins questioning the reality of his emotions and sets out to discover the truth.
Jurnee Smollett is having quite the breakout year. Following a scene-stealing turn in Birds of Prey, the actress continues to shine as Letitia “Leti” Lewison on Lovecraft Country. Moreover, Chris Hemsworth remains one of Hollywood’s most reliable leading men. The Extraction actor last appeared as the God of Thunder in Avengers: Endgame and will next reprise the Thor role in Thor: Love & Thunder. Additionally, Hemsworth will star as Hulk Hogan in the professional wrestler’s upcoming biopic.
