Daisy Ridley To Star In Neil Burger’s ‘The Marsh King’s Daughter’ Adaptation

With a historic run as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel series firmly in her rearview mirror, Daisy Ridley turns her attention to the future. With a role alongside Spider-Man star Tom Holland in Chaos Walking on the horizon, Ridley has nabbed her next starring role. As first reported by Deadline, the actress will star in a new psychological thriller.
The film, titled The Marsh King’s Daughter, is based on author Karen Dionne’s novel with the same name. Divergent director Neil Burger is on-board to helm the movie with an adapted screenplay by The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith (Estranged). Black Bear Pictures, Anonymous Content, and STXFilms will collaborate to produce and distribute the feature. Moreover, Teddy Schwarzman (The Imitation Game), Keith Redmon (The Midnight Sky), and the aforementioned Mark L. Smith are on board to produce as well.

The film will follow Helena, portrayed by Daisy Ridley. On the outside, it appears Helena lives an ordinary life. However, the young woman hides a dark secret. Her father is the notorious “Marsh King,” infamous for keeping Helena and her mother captive in a forest for years. Unable to escape her past, Helena is forced to face her demons when her father escapes from prison.
In addition to The Marsh King’s Daughter, Ridley will also star in Disney’s Young Woman and the Sea and Chaos Walking. The versatile performer looks to receive a host of starring roles as she adds to her impressive résumé. Last year, it was reported that she will star in an adaptation of Camilla Grebe’s The Ice Beneath Her. The actress will also lend her voice for the upcoming Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video game.
