Donald Glover & Phoebe Waller-Bridge To Star In ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Series For Amazon Studios

Donald Glover is one of the most dynamic performers of the last few years. With a bevy of Grammy Award and Golden Globe wins, his stock is ever on the rise. Moreover, another staple of Hollywood’s annual awards season is the versatile Phoebe Waller-Bridger. Thanks to her hit series Fleabag, the actress is one of the most sought after performers in the world today. Friday afternoon, Glover announced via his Instagram story that the two are teaming up for a Mr. & Mrs. Smith series for Amazon Prime Video.
The upcoming series will mark the second time the two share a screen together. The 2018 Star Wars film Solo shows they have indelible chemistry as Lando Calrissian and the droid L3-37. Additionally, the initial announcement notes that Fargo writer Francesca Sloane is the co-creator of the series alongside Glover and Waller-Bridge. Additionally, New Regency will produce the series in collaboration with Amazon Studios.

Directed by Doug Liman and written by Simon Kinberg, 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The film follows a bored upper middle class married couple surprised to learn that they are assassins belonging to competing agencies and that they have been assigned to kill each other. The movie grossed $487 million worldwide.
Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, is an extremely versatile actor. Gaining fame in the NBC sitcom Community, the actor touts a starring voice role in Disney’s live-action The Lion King as Simba. Moreover, Glover stars in the FX series Atlanta, which he co-created and occasionally directs. Up next, the “This Is America” rapper is rumored to reprise his role as Lando in a Disney+ Solo spinoff series. Meanwhile, Phoebe Waller-Bridge recently contributed to the screenplay of the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die. Recently, the Golden Globe winner had a recurring role in season 2 of His Dark Materials.
