Jodie Turner-Smith To Star In Netflix’s ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Prequel Series

While production for season two of The Witcher prepares to resume, Netflix continues to move ahead with another project set in the blossoming franchise. This summer, it was revealed that a prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is in the works. Now, as first reported by Deadline, the upcoming prequel finds its leading star with the addition of Jodie Turner-Smith.
While full details remain scarce at this time, the series will take place 1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, portrayed by Henry Cavill. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the creator of Netflix’s The Witcher, is on-board as executive producer while Declan de Barra (Iron Fist) serves as executive producer and showrunner. Additionally, Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher book series, will board the series as a creative consultant. The Witcher: Blood Origin joins an animated spinoff film titled The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, focusing on the origin story of Geralt’s mentor Vesemir, on the Netflix streaming service.

Turner-Smith will reportedly play Éile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess. After making the choice to who leaves her clan and position as Queen’s guardian, she follows her heart to become a musician. However, an impending reckoning and battle on the continent force her to return to her warrior’s way in a quest for vengeance and redemption.
Following a groundbreaking performance alongside Daniel Kaluuya in Queen & Slim, Turner-Smith is an extremely in-demand actress these days. Up next, the versatile performer will appear alongside Michael B. Jordan in the adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse. Additionally, she stars opposite Colin Farrell in A24‘s upcoming sci-fi drama After Yang.
