‘The Witcher’ Prequel Series In The Works At Netflix

With just one season under its belt at Netflix, the streaming service is ready to expand its Witcher universe. The Henry Cavill-led endeavor received mixed reviews from fans and critics. However, it apparently created enough buzz for the creative team to commit to more. Today on Twitter, Netflix announced that a prequel series titled The Witcher: Blood Origin is in the works from the show’s original showrunners.

In response to the big news, the aforementioned Lauren Schmidt Hissrich expressed her excitement to dive back into the lore.
“This has been the toughest secret to keep,” added Hissrich. “I’ve always wanted to dive deeper into the myth and lore of the Continent. Now fans will have a chance to explore it with Declan de Barra in a prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. Elves, and enemies, and the end, oh my…”
Based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia and princess Ciri, who are linked to each other by destiny. Additionally, the first season holds a 66% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, Full Circle’s own Ileana Meléndez recommends the series for those looking for something to binge. “Though there is an underlying plot, its primary mission is to immerse you into the characters. Henry Cavill portrays the protagonist monster hunter with subtleties that make you see him as Geralt of Rivia and nobody else (yes, you know who). The Witcher brings us back to our roots with a Van Helsing type of fun and is certainly a series that is here to stay.”
