Brendan Fraser To Star In Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale’ For A24

A24 is without a doubt one of the most revered movie studios in Hollywood. Their offerings like Uncut Gems and Moonlight have gone on to receive praise from fans and critics alike. Up next, as first reported by DiscussingFilm, the studio will enlist the services of the Academy Award-winning director of The Wrestler and Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky, for a feature titled The Whale.
Moreover, Deadline reports that Doom Patrol star Brendan Fraser will lead the upcoming film’s cast. Based on the 2012 play with the same name by playwright Samuel D. Hunter, The Whale follows a six-hundred-pound recluse. After years of hiding himself away from the world and slowly eating himself to death, the recluse is desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter. He reaches out to her, only to find an unhappy teenager. The Whale “tells the story of a man’s last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places,” according to Concord Theatricals. The play went on to score a Drama Desk Award, a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play, and a GLAAD Media Award.

The aforementioned Samuel D. Hunter will adapt the play into its movie script. Darren Aronofsky will direct the adaptation with A24 handling the project’s worldwide distribution. In a statement, Hunter expresses his excitement to bring his vision to life alongside Aronofsky.
“Adapting my play into a screenplay has been a real labor of love for me,” said Hunter. “This story is deeply personal and I’m very thankful it will have the chance to reach a wider audience. I’ve been a fan of Darren’s ever since I saw Requiem for a Dream when I was a college freshman writing my first plays, and I’m so grateful that he’s bringing his singular talent and vision to this film.”
Brendan Fraser currently stars in the DC Universe series Doom Patrol as Robotman. Up next, The Mummy actor will next star in Dalibor Stach’s Behind the Curtain of Night. Moreover, Fraser will appear along with David Harbour, Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, and Jon Hamm in HBO Max’s No Sudden Move.
